First Grade is Lots of Fun!!!

We have had so many special events in Class 1M recently!  Read all about it and check out our pics below:)

Meet Class 1M's Authors and Illustrators!
The children worked so hard to write and illustrate their first published books!  They went through the whole writing process.  They came up with an idea(Prewrite), drafted(sloppy copy), revised, edited, and finally
published their stories.  They did a wonderful job sharing their stories with their parents.  They were so happy to have their parents there to hear their special stories at our Publishing Party!  It was a great morning.

Bears, Bears, and More Bears!
To wrap up our unit on Animals in Winter and Bears our class had a Teddy Bear Sleepover.   The children brought in their favorite teddy bears from home to share with the class.  They took their bears with them to all of their specials.  Our bears went to Spanish, Music, PE, and even had a special art lesson from Mrs.  Howard in Art.  The children observed their bears and then drew them.  Here are some pics of our bears and their day in 1st Grade...

Mrs. Howard gave us a special art lesson with our bears!
We drew our bears!
We tucked our bears into the cave that we made for them, turned out the lights, and then went home...
The next day we came back to school and those silly bears had made a "beary" big mess in our classroom.  Look at what those crazy bears did...

 Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss
We celebrated Dr.  Seuss's birthday in the Lower School.  Everyone wore their crazy socks to go along with the book Fox in Socks.  Check out our cute socks...

We read The Cat in the Hat and talked about what we would do if Thing One and Thing Two came to our house.  We also made some text-to-self connections with the main characters.  We made cute Thing Hats and we read many of our favorite Dr.  Seuss books during the day.

Mrs.  Zubrycki and Mr.  Zubrycki came in and read a wonderful book titled We Shall Overcome by Debbie Levy to celebrate Black History Month.

Nikeeta and her mom read Amelia Bedilia to the class as part of Nikeeta's Student of the Week activities.

Vinay and his mom read The Giving Tree as part of his Student of the Week activities.

Trip to Princeton Academy
The First and Third Grade went on a special trip to The Princeton Academy.  We were invited to be their Superhero Earth Crusaders of the Week!  The children talked about what they did in regards to composting at our school.

Hip Hip Hooray! We had fun on the 100th Day!
We had a blast celebrating the 100th Day!  Look at our creative shirts!
